Legacy Zombie-Pup

"Zombie" pup texture bug. (Click to enlarge.)

In Legacy versions of WolfQuest, the "zombie" pup is a temporary texture rendering error caused by either an error or a glitch the game's programming. It was only present in builds 2.0.X - 2.5.1 that would later go on to receive a fix in its Classic successor.

In WolfQuest: Classic, the "zombie" pup glitch has been fixed. Social arena encounterable wolves were removed and their role was replaced by predator wolves who function much like den raiding grizzly bears, cougars, coyotes and eagles, effectively eliminating the conditions required to create a "zombie" pup.

In WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition, the "zombie" pup glitch remains elusive. Although one occurrence has appeared, the cause was unknown and it is presumed to have been fixed shortly after it was reported.

Cause[]

In Legacy versions, when the player enters a social encounter arena while carrying a pup, their carried pup either despawns or its model is hidden. This disappearance is temporary and will not affect interactions with the opposing wolf, nor will being attacked or dealing attacks harm the pup.

Regardless of whether the player fights to dominate or submits and flees, the carried pup will reappear in its parent's jaws upon exiting the social encounter. The pup will now bear an oddly-rotated white pup texture in place of its correctly-rotated actual coat texture, so-named for the zombie-like appearance it takes on thereafter. This has no effect on the pup's behaviors and it will resume normal activities and interactions upon returning home.

Fix[]

In Legacy versions, this glitch is easily resolved by saving the game and reloading the updated save file. To prevent this bug, simply avoid taking pups into any social arenas.

Bugs[]

Legacy Bugs

  • Whether this is an overlooked issue or a technical problem is unknown.
    • This bug was fixed in 2.7 and can no longer be triggered in the premium game.

Anniversary Edition Bugs

  • A new occurrence of the zombie pup issue resurfaced briefly in the Anniversary Edition. It was posted in the Discord server and was shown to have affected the newborn pup model.[1] The texture used is one of the brown 2-3 months-old textures instead of the newborn texture. (See Gallery.) The exact cause of this remains unknown.

Trivia[]

Legacy Trivia

  • This issue breaks certain 3D texture illusions with the model.
  • Contrary to the rumors, this will not corrupt a save file. This is a purely harmless glitch.
