- For general information about the litter of gray wolves in-game, see Gray wolf pup.
The white puppy, sometimes called an albino or "pure white", is a puppy-only coat. Its availability differs between major revisions of the game.
In WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition, "pure white" pups do not exist in the same sense that they did in past incarnations of WolfQuest for lack of an integrated experience system, thus they are no longer considered an unlockable reward. Only the cream-colored white-mix and its mottled white-cream counterpart are considered white.
In short:
- Two parents who are considered "gray" have increased odds of these pup coats appearing in their litters.
- One "gray" parent and one "black" parent have moderate odds of these pup coats appearing in their litters.
- Two parents who are considered "black" have a very rare chance of these pup coats appearing in their litters.
Which pup coats appear in a litter are usually based on the parents' genetics and luck. See diversity and age perks for litter sizes.
Experience in the Anniversary Edition remake was superseded by age perks, which — apart from aging up all packmates upon confirmation — exclusively apply to the player-wolf only.In WolfQuest: Classic, this puppy-only coat is a reward unlocked when a player's wolf has earned 15,000 experience points. This puppy has a black nose, blue eyes, and faint traces of browns and grays in its fur. Contrary to popular belief, it is not truly pure white; it is simply a brightened edit of the standard white puppy coat.
This pup is unique in that it replaces the fourth member of the litter and will be born regardless of the coloration of the parents' coats. In Legacy versions, this puppy-only coat is a reward unlocked when a player's wolf has earned 50,000 experience points.

Trivia
- The puppy is often incorrectly referred to as an albino.
- Contrary to popular belief, this is not albino. Albinism has not yet been observed in wild wolf packs nor verified in captive wolves and because an affected animal has reduced odds of survival, few albino specimens have been known to make it into adolescence without living in captivity for the rest of their lives.[citation needed]
- As well as possessing white fur/hair, scales, feathers, or similar, true albinos have red, pink, gray or blue eyes dependent on the species along with visible pink skin in most areas without cover (including lips and nose) due to the lack of pigment.
- Most albino specimens are born blind.
- Leucism is a similar genetic trait that is often confused with albinism (and vice versa). Leucism is a condition in which there is partial loss of pigmentation in an animal resulting in white, pale, or patchy coloration of the skin, hair, feathers, scales or cuticle, but not the eyes. Unlike albinism, it is caused by a reduction in multiple types of pigment, not just melanin.
- It is very likely that this pup is actually leucitic based on its dark nose and faint traces of markings on its coat.
- Gray wolves who are white are usually old, elderly wolves. It is far easier to see in black wolves because their fur more noticeably whitens over time as the individual ages. Gray wolves, too, can and do whiten with age too, but it may or may not be noticeable depending on the wolf's pelt and markings.
- Some of the add-on content Yellowstone Wolf Coats pay homage to this fact in their genetic coat color readout, which will indicate a "white" coat being black despite its appearance. A common misconception is that this is a bug.
Anniversary Edition Trivia
- Gray wolf pup coats can appear visually deceptive. In particular among these are the pale gray colored coats and the warm cream colored coats, respectively referenced within the game files as
Gray
andWhite
within their very filenames.- A common misconception is that they are in fact white. However, the filenames given to them by the developer and/or artist disproves this, and we do not consider them to be "pure" white.
- Brown Light looks similar to White Cream, but the two possess subtle visual differences. It's very easy for one to be mistaken for the other.
