For the range of locations present in WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition, see Rendezvous Sites.

The Rendezvous Site (or rendezvous) is a single fixed location in WolfQuest where the player and their pack will migrate to during the late missions of the second episode. It is also known as the pack's summer home.

In WolfQuest: Classic, the Rendezvous Site is the final destination in and the endgame of Slough Creek.

After accepting and starting the sixth and final mission of the episode, the player-wolf can see this location marked on their world map in a small, green circle within the Douglas Fir Slopes area as well as being marked with a white Wqcl-den icon-star star on their compass.

The den whose territory they claimed at the beginning of the episode and called home throughout the previous five missions will then be irreversibly abandoned once the final journey begins. The pack will cease its use of their former home with immediate effect; there is no going back from this point forward.

In Legacy versions of WolfQuest, the Rendezvous Site in Slough Creek is the final destination of the Survival of the Pack episode appearing only after the sixth and final mission has been started. It is marked with a white Wqcl-den icon-star star which appears on the compass and appears as a green circle on the world map. Each will lead the player and their pack to a small clearing in the Douglas Fir Slopes area.

The player-wolf and their pack must travel to this location, enter the designated area, then howl upon arrival with their family. Doing so correctly will play the ending sequence and display a message confirming that the player has finished episode two, and will then return the player to the game's title screen.

Depending on which den was selected at the beginning of the game, reaching the rendezvous site has its own difficulty level. Starting from the East Creek or Bison Peak Cutoff den sites will require the player to travel around the southern stranger wolf pack's territory. Starting from Aspen Heights or Saddle Meadows den sites will not require the player to go around stranger wolf packs despite Aspen Heights being nearer to the northern stranger wolf territory. In all cases, the player must cross a shallow portion of the creek to get to the summer site.

The easiest method of reaching the summer den site is by choosing the Saddle Meadows site at the beginning of the game. This is commonly accepted due to the relatively short run south to the marked area and only one shallow body of water must be crossed to reach the destination.

Getting There[]

The territory selected at the beginning of the game alters only the route taken to reach the rendezvous site. This can make the mission easier or harder; the active difficulty (Classic only) and surviving pups will also affect the duration of this mission. It is recommended that players try to complete the mission without intentionally killing off any of their pups, assuming all four have made it to this point in the game.

Settling at Saddle Meadows offers the shortest route, where players need only cross shallows of the creek once close to the Little Butte and continue towards Douglas Fir Slopes with their pups. Treks from the other three territories merge into this path.
Settling at East Creek or Bison Peak Cutoff requires players to divert their course. They cannot cut through the expanded territory of the southern rival pack. Attempting to do so yields a message stating that it is too dangerous to be so close to rival territory. Trespassing into their territory (Legacy only) will spawn a wolf to drive out the player-wolf, teleporting themself and their packmates to the edge of rival territory beside the sandbar. There are two options:
  1. Traverse water — the creek at the Sandbar Crossing offers shallows visibly marked with pebbles through which the player-wolf can wade, carrying a pup safely to the sandbar, and again across to the other side just outside of the rival pack's territory. In single-player, the mate will assist, however there is a risk of pups drowning.
  2. Take the long journey around the southern side of the creek. Pups stand less chance of drowning, but may starve.
Settling at Aspen Heights is also a longer route which takes players along the creek, west past the lone tree and merging into the Saddle Meadows' route along with the Bison Peak and East Creek routes.

A good strategy involves killing elk along the route of the player's selected territory before the litter is born; it's also a good idea to hunt at night due to the absence of ravens. Once the trail of carcasses have been set, do not change the time of day and avoid using these carcasses during the main five missions. There is a risk of predators scavenging from those carcasses over time, however.

Completion[]

Besides the varying difficulties (Classic only) and time taken to reach this site from any of the four dens, the conclusion of the episode is always the same regardless of how many pups have survived the difficult journey.

When the rendezvous site has been reached and the player is standing in the marked area with their family, all they need to do is howl to complete the mission. If everyone is accounted for, the player is rewarded with an endgame cutscene showing their pack howling together. Just before the game ends, they are shown the following message:

Congratulations! You've brought your family to the rendezvous site. Here you'll spend the summer, making this hillside your home and hunting insects, mice and bird nestlings.

By fall, they will be big and strong enough to hunt elk with you. And come the spring, you'll raise a new litter of pups. This year's pups will help raise those. Then, after another year together, they'll leave the family in search of a mate, just as you did.

You have completed the WolfQuest game. You can now reload a saved game back at your den, or start a new game and a new family. Or go to WolfQuest.org to learn more about wolves!

This is where the game ends in both Classic and its Legacy predecessor; there's no continuation.

Endless Mode[]

While not a true method of extending time spent with pups, the player can choose not to begin the Final Journey mission. This effectively delays it and endlessly prolongs the player's ability to spend time feeding and defending their pups, or visiting the ranch to hunt at night.

The player need only check the World Map to find the option to progress onto the final journey.

Multiplayer[]

In Classic, the release of 2.7 in November 2015 introduced a multiplayer-compatible co-operative mode featuring the full Slough Creek story arc, allowing players to work through the second second episode together from start to finish completely online. There is/are no AI mates involved. Players must raise the litter and ensure the protection and survival of the pack by working together as if they are a family unit.

With the ability to play with up to eight players per server, the episode becomes considerably less balanced and much easier. Higher difficulties make things somewhat more chaotic and challenging.

In Legacy versions, Slough Creek had no online story arc; players could not raise pups together in multiplayer, thus the rendezvous site had no functionality during online play.

Bugs[]

Classic Bugs[]

  • Pups may sometimes get stuck underwater.

Legacy Bugs[]

  • Sometimes, when crossing shallow water with your pup to reach the Rendezvous site, your pup will lose some health, as well as a warning that your pup is drowning. Run across quickly, and your pup should be fine, as long as it has some health left.
  • There is an odd glitch where taking a pup to the Rendezvous site and then going into a wolf pack's territory and getting chased to the river will complete the mission, regardless of if whether or not the mate and other surviving pups have made it there.
  • Another glitch is used by many players to cross the river. Instead of picking up a pup and crossing the shallow part of the river, the pup is pushed across the water, which causes the game to believe that the pup is still on land and therefore can't drown.
  • There is another glitch (Final Journey Glitch) when the wolves arrive at the Rendezvous Site and howl. The camera doesn't circle upwards like it's supposed to, and the player's wolf cannot move or save the game. Quitting and reloading does not get rid of this glitch. This has been fixed in Classic.

Trivia[]

Classic Trivia[]

  • When traveling to the rendezvous site in multiplayer, it is advised to prioritize traveling as a group. One player rushing puppies ahead can easily result in the death of the pups, for they would normally have to leave them to retrieve others and the pack leader is usually too far away, causing the pups to walk back to the leader in the open, which often puts them in great danger.
  • The rendezvous site is now marked as a patch of dirt, where previously it was grass. This makes it much easier to spot in-game. This is not reflected on the map.
  • The best way to reach the site is to choose East Creek, Bison Peak Cutoff or Saddle Meadows at the beginning of the episode.
  • As of the release of 2.7, the WolfQuest Team added an "At Rendezvous" interface as a visual aid for players to know who is within the designated area (white name with a star icon on the left) and who has not yet entered the designated area (yellow name).
    • Pups' health will still deteriorate while inside of the rendezvous area. They will not stand idle and will roam around the host, or walk to the host if they are not near, but they must still be fed and can still be carried. This may differ on certain platforms.
    • Pups will stray away from the Rendezvous site in the mobile edition, yet return back to the pack leader as their AI is built to follow the host.
  • If a pup is dropped while crossing the creek, it will rapidly begin drowning.
    • During this time it is possible to feed a drowning pup in order to keep its health up while stamina recovers or until another player comes along to save it, or the player who dropped it recovers enough stamina to pick it up and continue traveling.

Classic and Legacy Trivia[]

  • Douglas Fir Slopes is the only site in the game, regardless of the den chosen at the beginning of the game.

Legacy Trivia[]

  • The best way to reach the site is to choose Bison Peak Cutoff or Saddle Meadows at the beginning of the episode.
  • The golden eagle can only spawn during the final journey.
